Let’s Talk Armpits: Your Natural Deodorant Questions, Answered

At Bathhouse Trading Co., we believe that what you put on your body should be as thoughtful as what you put in it. That’s why our Natural Cream Deodorant is made without aluminum, baking soda, or synthetic fragrance—and instead, filled with gentle, odor-fighting ingredients your skin will actually love.

But we know switching to a natural deodorant can come with questions. Will it work? Will I still sweat? What even is zinc ricinoleate? We’ve heard it all—and we’re here to make the transition feel simple, supported, and yes—even kind of fun.

Below, we’re answering the most common questions we get from customers who are curious, cautious, or just starting out on their natural deodorant journey.

🧼 Natural Cream Deodorant Q&A

Do I need to detox my armpits before switching?

Not necessarily! Some people experience a short adjustment period when switching from traditional antiperspirants, especially if your body is used to blocked sweat glands. But there’s no official “detox” required—just consistency and a little patience as your skin rebalances.

How long does one jar last?

A little really does go a long way. Most people find their 2 oz jar lasts 6–8 weeks with daily use. Just scoop a pea-sized amount for each underarm, and you’re good to go.

Can I use this right after shaving?

Yes—but if you’re sensitive, give your skin a few minutes to calm down post-shave. Our formula is extra gentle, but freshly shaved underarms can be more reactive to any product.

  Will I still sweat?

Yes—and we want you to! Our deodorant is not an antiperspirant, so it doesn’t block your sweat glands. Instead, it works by neutralizing odor with natural, skin-safe ingredients while letting your body do its thing.

Why don’t you use baking soda?

We get this one a lot! Baking soda is a popular deodorant ingredient, but it’s very alkaline, and that can disrupt your skin’s natural pH—especially in sensitive areas like your underarms. For some people, that means rashes, redness, or irritation over time.

That’s why we formulated a better alternative, using:

Magnesium hydroxide – gently neutralizes odor-causing bacteria

Arrowroot powder – naturally absorbs moisture to keep you dry

Zinc ricinoleate – traps and absorbs odor molecules, without clogging pores

🧪 Wait... what is zinc ricinoleate? Is that natural?

Yes, it is! Zinc ricinoleate is a compound made from zinc and ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid found in castor oil. Though it sounds a bit technical, it’s a nature-derived deodorizer that works by binding to odor molecules and making them undetectable. It’s widely used in clean beauty products and offers powerful odor control without harshness.

So while the name might not sound botanical, rest assured—it’s safe, effective, and considered natural by clean beauty standards.

Do I have to use my fingers to apply it?

Not if you don’t want to! We offer a bamboo applicator spoon that makes for easy, mess-free application. It’s naturally antimicrobial, simple to rinse between uses, and perfect if you prefer a no-touch routine (or plan to share the jar).

We created our Natural Cream Deodorant to give you confident, comfortable freshness—without compromising on ingredients or effectiveness. Whether you're brand new to natural deodorant or just looking for a gentler solution that actually works, we’re here for your pits.
